Daily Prayer Focus: The 7 Last Words of Jesus
Please add these prayer points to your daily personal prayer time as we remember and reflect on Jesus’ “7 Last Words from the Cross”, during Holy Week.
1. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
Luke 23:34 | Ephesians 4:32
- Ask God to help us forgive those who have wronged us.
- Pray for those lost in sin, that they would recognize their need for salvation.
- Pray that the Church would be a place of grace, not judgment, offering God’s love to all.
2. “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Luke 23:43 | Romans 10:9
- Pray for the salvation of unsaved family, friends, and those in our community.
- Ask God to remind believers of the assurance of eternal life through Christ.
- Pray that churches would be bold in proclaiming the Gospel and leading people to salvation.
3. “Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother.”
John 19:26-27 | Matthew 22:39
- Pray for healing and restoration in broken families and relationships.
- Ask God to strengthen marriages, parents, and children to love each other unconditionally.
- Pray for widows, orphans, and those who feel lonely, that they would find family in Christ.
- Intercede for spiritual mothers and fathers in the Church to mentor and guide the next generation.
4. “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
Matthew 27:46 | Psalm 34:18 | Hebrews 13:3 | 2 Timothy 3:12
- Intercede for persecuted Christians around the world who may feel forsaken in their suffering.
- Pray for their strength, protection, and provision, and that their faith remains strong.
- Pray for those who feel abandoned, depressed, or hopeless, that they may experience God’s presence.
- Ask God to remind us that even in our darkest moments, He is still with us.
5. “I thirst.”
John 19:28 | Matthew 5:6
- Pray for a deeper hunger and thirst for God’s presence in the Church.
- Ask God to pour out revival, awakening His people to seek Him wholeheartedly.
- Intercede for those who are spiritually dry, that they would be refreshed and renewed.
6. “It is finished!”
John 19:30 | 1 Corinthians 15:57
- Pray for those battling sin, addiction, and strongholds, that they would walk in victory.
- Ask God to help believers live in the finished work of Christ, free from guilt and condemnation.
- Pray for strength to finish the race God has set before each of us with faithfulness.
7. “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.”
Luke 23:46 | Proverbs 3:5-6
- Ask for faith to trust God even when we don’t understand what He is doing.
- Pray for hearts fully surrendered to God’s will and plans.
- Pray for those facing major life decisions, that they would seek and follow God’s guidance.
- Intercede for a spirit of peace and rest in the Lord, knowing He is in control.
Let’s journey together through Holy Week in reflection, prayer, and spiritual renewal.
