Don’t Sweep Out Integrity

By Elder Derrick Varner

As we prepare for the spring season, naturally, one of the chores for some is to clean, get rid of clutter, and reorganize. Some even plan large sales to get rid of stuff we don’t plan to use any longer. Another task and requirement most of us would need to comply with, and it’s right around the corner, would be the dreaded tax season. The truth be told, there are moments, I would like to move the decimal point (but not!)

But I want to encourage you, although it’s tempting, don’t disregard, throw-away, or sell your integrity. Integrity can be interpreted as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles or having a moral compass that doesn’t waiver. Simply put, integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not. I need to add this caveat and would argue, “but God knows, hears, and sees all.”

All through scripture we can identify the importance of integrity. In the sinful world we live in today, it is obvious that our integrity will be tested and at times imperfect. However, perfect integrity can be found in Jesus, and through him we are able to aim towards true integrity for ourselves. Proverbs 21:3, “To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

NWCC, as we are decluttering, let’s develop a Biblical mindset and ask the Holy Spirit for help during those times of testing so we can please our Heavenly Father. As we do this, it will allow our behavior to match our beliefs as Christ-followers and avoid the harmful effects if we neglect or pawn our integrity. Let me tell you, it’s not worth it! Let’s strive to be in common-UNITY and reach the world for Christ.
